Report: Everton could pay £25m for £34k-per-week Olympique Lyonnais man

|

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Everton are weighing up a £25m bid for Bertrand Traore. The £34k-per-week Olympique Lyonnais man scored and created nine goals in 34 Ligue 1 games last season and could be on the move this summer.

Traore’s potential arrival could be bad news for Theo Walcott. The England international may have an uncertain future at Everton after an underwhelming season – scoring only two Premier League goals in 2019. The Toffees being linked with a right-winger is somewhat telling, especially given how much they’re willing to pay.

The Burkina Faso international joined Lyon from Chelsea in 2017, signing a five-year deal worth £1.77m-a-year. If he signed a similar length contract at Everton, the Toffees would be shelling out around £9m over five years. The entire package to bring Traore to Goodison Park would set Everton back around £35m – the same initial price paid for Richarlison.

That’s not to say Traore wouldn’t improve the squad, however. The 23-year-old would be an upgrade on Theo Walcott, having created 25 chances and made 52 successful dribbles (58%). He won’t come cheap, but Everton appear keen to bring him back to England after his success in France.
