Report: Everton ‘considering’ highly-rated Chelsea man, Marco Silva strengthening key area

|

According to Sky Sports News, Everton are ‘considering’ Fikayo Tomori to strengthen their defence. The Toffees aren’t making any progress bringing Kurt Zouma back to Goodison Park and could turn their attentions elsewhere as a result.

The 21-year-old impressed on loan at Derby County last season, but he’ll have stiff competition for a starting place upon his return to Chelsea. Tomori could find himself behind David Luiz, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christiansen and Antonio Rudiger in the pecking order and may be granted another season-long loan.

Marco Silva has Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Matthew Pennington at his disposal but may need at least one more centre-back on the books after Holgate struggled in Everton’s last two pre-season friendlies. Pennington hasn’t featured in pre-season either and could be offloaded.

Tomori would be an improvement on the two backup options and would surely jump at the chance to get Premier League football in 2019/20. He’s had temporary stints at Brighton & Hove Albion (January 23, 2017 – May 31, 2017), Hull City (August 31, 2017 – May 31, 2018) and Derby (August 6, 2018 – May 31, 2019) and looks ready to make the step-up.
