Report: Everton close to signing £80k-per-week Manchester City man

|

According to Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph, Everton are close to signing Fabian Delph for £8m. The £80k-per-week Manchester City midfielder has struggled for playing time at the Etihad Stadium and is in the last year of his contract. City had to cash in now rather than risk losing Delph for nothing in 2020.

Since his 2015-move from Aston Villa, The 29-year-old made 89 appearances in all competitions for the Citizens, scoring and creating eight goals. Delph found himself on the periphery last season, however, making only 13 starts in the Premier League (8), FA Cup (1), EFL Cup (2) and Champions League (2).

With Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva for competition in midfield, Delph always had a tough task of getting regular playing time. Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko were preferred at left-back under Pep Guardiola too.

As a result, Delph’s future lies away from Man City. Everton are capitalising on the situation to bring him to Goodison Park, but Idrissa Gueye wanting to join Paris Saint-Germain might be the reason why. PSG have lodged a bid for the Senegalese international, so Marco Silva will need a ball-winner to replace him this summer.
