Report: Everton battling PL rival for ‘popular’ €30m-rated rock whose club ‘need to sell’

According to Le10 Sport, Everton are battling Liverpool and other clubs in Europe for Boubacar Kamara as an alternative to Gabriel Magalhaes. The 20-year-old broke into Olympique Marseille’s senior squad in 2018 and is ‘popular’ among suitors because his side ‘need to sell’ due to their financial crisis.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Kamara rose through the youth ranks to L’OM’s first-team in 2017 and has gone on to make 79 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals with three assists. The centre-back has made 28 appearances this season, scoring two goals with two assists.

Kamara helped Marseille finish second in Ligue 1 with only four defeats, in addition to keeping nine clean sheets in his 24 league outings, so his stock has sky-rocketed in 2019/20. As per WhoScored, the 20-year-old has won 55/100 aerial duels, blocked 30 shots/passes/crosses, made 50 clearances and averaged a tackle (67) or interception (34) every 21 minutes.

After Ashley Williams was released, Matthew Pennington was loaned out and Phil Jagielka was released, Everton have been on the hunt for a centre-back to accompany Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina next season. Marcel Brands would prefer a young player be brought in, so Kamara does fit the criteria.

Gabriel looked to be on his way to Everton for the longest time, but he could join Napoli this summer, leaving the Toffees to find an alternative. Le10 Sport say Kamara will cost in excess of €30m, so time will tell if a bid is lined up.
