Report: Everton battling PL rival for ‘experienced’ 26 y/o who has ‘performed well’ in Turkey

|

According to Milliyet, Everton are still interested in Christian Luyindama and may have to battle Wolverhampton Wanderers to procure his signature.

Whether Galatasaray are willing to sell Luyindama remains to be seen, however, as Milliyet say the ‘experienced’ 26-year-old defender ‘performed quite well’ in Turkey before rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Luyindama joined Gala on loan from Standard Liege in January 2019 and turned the move permanent last summer. He’s gone on to make 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and making one assist.

The DR Congo international was a regular under Fatih Terim, but a knee injury in November 2019 cut his full debut season short. Luyindama made 15 appearances across the board before undergoing surgery and spent the next four months recovering.

He returned to training in mid-March so Everton will be free to make a move, safe in the knowledge that he will pass a medical. Milliyet say the 26-year-old has a €15m asking price, so he won’t break the bank. Whether he’s the Toffees’ No.1 target remains to be seen, however.

Everton have been linked with LOSC Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, West Ham United’s Issa Diop and Verona’s Marash Kumbulla among others. Ancelotti wants another centre-back to accompany Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina, but it’s unknown which player the Merseysiders will eventually sign.
