Report: Derby County interested in £15k-per-week Everton man, ‘good relationship’ may be key

|

According to Laurie Whitwell of Mail Online, Derby County are interested in Kieran Dowell and could beat Huddersfield Town to his signature. The £15k-per-week midfielder doesn’t appear to have a future at Everton and could leave on loan this summer as a result.

Dowell needs regular football to boost his development, and it doesn’t appear he’ll get many opportunities under Marco Silva next season. The 21-year-old finds himself behind Gylfi Sigurdsson in the pecking order and has made only five appearances in all competitions.

Dowell has featured only twice for Everton since May 2016 and has spent more time out on loan in the last two years than he has at Goodison Park. The England u21 international has enjoyed stints at Nottingham Forest (August 3, 2017 – May 31, 2018) and Sheffield United (January 2, 2019 – May 31, 2019) and could be returning to the Championship in the coming weeks.

New Derby manager Philip Cocu reportedly has a ‘good relationship’ with Marcel Brands which may boost his chances of landing Dowell’s signature. Brands will likely want the 21-year-old to be a regular at his next club for the sake of his development while Cocu may have promised to use the midfielder as much as possible if Everton let Dowell join the Rams over Huddersfield.
