According to The Athletic, Cuco Martina is ‘set to leave’ Everton this summer and will soon be ‘a free agent’. The 30-year-old is out of contract in the coming months and doesn’t have a new deal on the table, so he’ll be free to speak to other clubs next month.

As per The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Premier League clubs have until June 23th to either tie down their out-of-contract players to a new deal, extend their contract until the end of the revised season or not offer them a contract at all. Everton appear to have chosen the latter.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Martina underperformed when called upon, was on the periphery for two years, failed to convince a suitor to buy him while out on loan and found himself behind Seamus Coleman, Djibril Sidibe and Jonjoe Kenny in the pecking order, so it’s no surprise that he’s being released.

The Curacao international joined Everton on a free transfer from Southampton in 2017 and has gone on to make 28 appearances in all competitions. Martina was loaned out to Stoke City (18 appearances) in 2018/19 and Feyenoord (12 appearances) in 2019 but failed to convince either side that he was worth signing permanently.

He won’t be missed at Everton.
