According to Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo, DC United are interested in Ashley Williams, who will be available on a free transfer when his Everton contract expires later this month. The Everton centre-back has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison Park and looks set to end his three-year stay this summer after making 73 appearances in all competitions.

Williams has a number of offers to weigh up before deciding his next step and says he’s “excited to see” what happens next in his career. The Welsh international recently told BBC Sport: “It’s the first time I have got to the end of a contract in a long time. It’s not something I’m worried about – I am just excited to see what comes up.

“My agent says we have got good options abroad and here. I haven’t ruled anything out yet – we’ll decide when the time comes. At the moment it’s just business as usual.” With Michael Keane, Phil Jagielka, Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina for competition at Everton, the Welsh international was forced to move away on loan last season. He made 37 appearances for Stoke City in 2018/19.

Williams’ last outing for the Toffees came against Burnley on March 3, 2018 and looks likely to be his final appearance for the club. DC United are trying to bring the experienced defender to Audi Field, but a decision may not be made for a number of weeks if he has a lot of clubs looking to procure his signature.

The 34-year-old has racked up 241 Premier League appearances in his career, so he’ll have a wealth of experience to bring to another side.
