Report: Celtic ‘targeting’ academy talent and are keen on another 19 y/o Everton man

According to The Athletic, Celtic are ‘targeting’ academy talent and hope to bring in hot prospects from England and overseas who are on the cusp of first-team football.

Celtic tried to sign Anthony Gordon in January, but Everton rejected their efforts to bring the 19-year-old to Parkhead. The Hoops are also ‘monitoring’ Morgan Feeney.

The Athletic say another Everton youngster is on their radar – Lewis Gibson. The 19-year-old has impressed while on loan at Fleetwood Town, but he may be earmarked for more first-team football next season rather than a stint away from Goodison Park.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Gibson joined Everton from Newcastle United in 2017 and has yet to make an appearance at senior level. He’s made the matchday squad on one occasion but hasn’t been given any minutes on the bench.

Due to a lack of playing time, the England U20 international was loaned out to Fleetwood and made nine appearances in all competitions. His form has led to clubs showing interest in his signature too, with Rangers reportedly keen on Gibson.

Whether Rangers and Celtic have a chance of signing him on loan remains to be seen, however, as his stint at Fleetwood has been such a success that first-team football at Everton may follow.
