Report: Another striker may leave Everton this summer, 28 y/o’s exit ‘could be on the cards’

|

According to the Liverpool Echo, Cenk Tosun’s departure ‘could be on the cards’ this summer as the 28-year-old is surplus to requirements at Everton. Tosun has struggled for form and playing time in his two years on Merseyside and may need to leave to get regular first-team football.

The Turkish international joined Everton from Besiktas in January 2018 and has gone on to make 51 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals. He scored only two goals in the last 10 months and saw his season cut short after picking up a serious knee injury.

A lack of playing time at Everton led to Tosun joining Crystal Palace on loan in January, but he made only five appearances before undergoing surgery on his anterior crucial ligament. The Liverpool Echo say Everton will offer the striker out to suitors if he recovers over the summer.

Will Tosun be at Goodison Park next season?

Tosun is behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Moise Kean in the pecking order at Goodison Park and hasn’t featured for the Toffees since December 2019. That may be his last outing in an Everton shirt if Marcel Brands has his way, but Tosun has been a difficult player to shift so far.

He turned down the chance to join Galatasaray last summer to fight for his place at Everton and rejected a move to Al-Gharafa SC as his wife was reluctant to make the switch. The Blues spent £27m for Tosun and will be hoping they can make their money back as he still has two years left on his deal.

Whether suitors are willing to pay so much for a striker with only two league goals since May 2019 remains to be seen, however.
