Everton have sounded out the possibility of landing a January deal for SS Lazio striker Ciro Immobile, according to TuttoMercatoWEB.

Immobile has been in inspired form at the Stadio Olimpico under Simone Inzaghi this season, with the 29-year-old striking 21 goals in 22 games in all competitions.

No player has struck the back of the net on more occasions than the Torre Annunziata-born Italy international in the Serie A in 2019/20, with Immobile responsible for 48% of Lazio’s 40 top-flight goals after scoring 19 times in 17 appearances.

For this reason, it is “unthinkable” that Lazio would cash in on the centre-forward, let alone this month, even though we are said to be ready to offer a “heavy” sum to land the £40.5million-rated hitman.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti, then, is unlikely to bring the forward who has scored in all bar four of his Serie A appearances this season to Goodison Park, with Immobile penning braces to his name against Sampdoria, Bologna, Atalanta, Torino, Udinese and Brescia already this term.

Would you back a move for Immobile?

No

Immobile would have been the ideal centre-forward for us to have in the box, as the 39-cap star has struck each of his 19 Serie A goals for the season so far from inside the penalty area, and not a single effort from outside the box or in the six-yard area.

The 29-year-old has tried his luck from outside the box 12 times in the Italian top-flight this season and twice in the six-yard area to 56 attempts in the penalty area, per WhoScored data.

We have struggled for goals to this extent in the Premier League this season, with our players only able to create 24 goals in 21 games, of which 13 came from inside the area, eight in the six-yard box, and just one from outside the area.

Immobile may have been the ideal forward to add to Ancelotti’s ranks given his goal conversion rate and zones of form, and that we are taking 7.9 shots per game in the area to 1.2 in the six-yard box and 4.3 out of the area.

In other Everton news, reports have claimed there was a player revolt behind-the-scenes following Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Liverpool.
