Everton continue to be linked with high-profile midfield options, with Juventus’ Aaron Ramsey reported to be the latest player on their list for the summer.

According to Il Bianconero (h/t TalkSport), the Wales international has a “serious and intriguing” offer on the table from the Toffees.

The midfielder previously enjoyed great success with Arsenal in English football. He won the FA Cup three times in an 11-year spell with the Gunners, scoring 64 goals in 369 appearances.

Ramsey moved to Juventus in the summer of 2019 following the expiration of his contract at Arsenal, signing a reported £400,000-a-week deal with the Serie A giants. While he’s had some positive moments in Turin, in the main he’s struggled to nail down a regular place in the team, with midfield spots highly competitive with the Bianconeri.

During the current campaign, Andrea Pirlo’s first in charge as manager, the 30-year-old has made just 14 starts in Serie A, scoring two goals.

Given Ramsey’s experience and Premier League pedigree, it’s easy to see why he would appeal to a number of clubs this summer.

Everton’s midfield issues have been there for all to see this season too. While the signings of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure have had a positive impact on the team, Carlo Ancelotti’s side still lack a natural holding player in the middle of the park.

They would also benefit from having someone who can break from deep with the ball and get into the box to chip in with goals. This season, none of Allan, Tom Davies, Andre Gomes or Fabian Delph have netted for the Toffees, placing a heavy burden on the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

Ramsey would potentially help with that. While he’s never been a player who controls games, the Welshman is adept at popping up in dangerous areas and can unsettle defences with his runs from deep.

However, given his age—Everton require some youthful legs in midfield next season—, his salary and the fact he would be taking a step down in stature of club by moving to Goodison Park this summer, this doesn’t feel like one the Toffees should pursue.
