Rangers Eye Everton Keeper

Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has attracted the interest of Scottish side Glasgow Rangers, according to reports.

The 35-year-old keeper’s current deal with the club expires in the summer of 2023, with the Gers looking to pick up the experienced professional on a free transfer, should he not extend his contract with Everton.

Begovic has made 3 appearances in a blue shirt so far this season, with 2 in the League Cup and 1 in Everton’s 1-0 win over West Ham United back in September.

The Bosnian international, who joined the Toffees in July 2021, has recently insisted that he is happy at the club and hailed the influence of manager Frank Lampard and his backroom staff.

Begovic said, “The manager has been first-class since he came in. He’s been really good with me and every time he’s given me opportunities.

“I enjoy the work on a daily basis and for me it’s a great environment, working with the manager, his coaching staff and, obviously, our Goalkeeping Coach Alan Kelly and the rest of the lads.”

Indeed, the veteran keeper was given the responsibility of the captain’s armband during Everton mid-season tour of Australia, and is a solid back-up to the first-choice Jordan Pickford.

However, with his contract expiring next summer, Everton may decide to let Begovic move on.

Begovic has a wealth of experience, and would no doubt prove to be a decent acquisition for any club looking for decent back-up, though perhaps Everton will be looking for a younger option as Jordan Pickford’s understudy and have recently been linked with a move for a prodigious Ajax talent.

18-year-old Charlie Setford recently emerged as a potential target for the Blues, alongside a host of top European clubs such as AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund, with Antonio Conte’s Spurs also rumoured to be interested.
