Pundit Believes Everton Deal Would Be A “Masterstroke” At Reported Price

|

With Everton’s summer transfer rumour mill stepping up a gear now and suggesting that we are close to announcing a permanent move for impressive Barcelona loanee Andre Gomes, it would certainly come as a welcome announcement following all the speculation linking the likes of Tottenham Hotspur with potentially having an interest in him this summer.

Back in May it was claimed that Mauricio Pochettino had joined the chase for the 25-year-old who grew into the role at Goodison Park and it was even suggested they had gazumped us and agreed a £26million fee.

That speculation came to nothing and with strong rumours now in Spain that an initial £22million price has been agreed, rising to £31million with add on clauses, former footballer Danny Mills believes that it would be a ‘masterstroke’ by Marco Silva and Marcel Brands if they got this deal over the line.

“It’s looking like a done deal. It will be a masterstroke if Everton can sign a player of that quality for £30million or less. He took a few months to settle into the Premier League, which is not unusual for players joining from overseas, but has proved to be a fabulous player who really does look the part. Tottenham and West Ham have been linked with him, so Everton will definitely view it as a real coup. He’s a player Marco Silva has made clear he wanted. Clearly, the Portuguese link with the manager will have been a factor in Gomes’ thinking. He will have been saying, ‘where will I be happiest’? It appears that will be Everton.”

Given what we saw of him in 2018/19 and upfront fee of around £22million could well be a steal given some of the other prices being bandied around on the rumour mill this summer. Get it done as quickly as we can.
