Potential: £36m-rated Everton signing needs to start scoring to live up to int’l hype – Opinion

Everton’s signing of Moise Kean was one of the most surprising deals of the summer in more ways than one.

Not only had the Toffees managed to entice one of the hottest prospects in world football to swap the prestige and historic Juventus for, well, Everton, but Marco Silva also successfully signed a striker who many in his homeland believe to be the answer to their national team striker problem.

Whilst Italy might be the home of tactical defending and the regista, producing strikers, as of late at least, has been a difficult task, with the likes of Mario Balotelli, Matteo Destro and Simone Zaza all failing on the international stage despite some years of hype and excitement.

But Kean, who is currently valued at £36m on Transfermarkt, seemed different from the rest. Here we had a striker who had come through the best club side in Italy and not only make it to the first-team, but also leave an impact as Kean scored six goals in 13 appearances for Juve last season as numbers from Transfermarkt show.

The teenager has also impressed on the international stage, becoming the youngest Italian forward to wear the iconic Azzurri strip since 1912, and then topping that by becoming the second-youngest goalscorer for the national team ever in a 2-0 win over Finland.

Indeed, the youngster seems to have the hallmarks to become Italy’s main striker for years to come, yet although Kean has impressed for Everton so far this season, it will ultimately be goals that keeps the teenager in Roberto Mancini’s squad, seemingly the reason why the Italian striker was not called up to the senior team for this international break.

With Torino striker Andrea Belotti finding the form that once made the Italian attacker valued at over £100m and linked to a move in Manchester United in 2017 as reported by beINSPORTS, Kean will need to hit the ground running when league football returns next weekend, but as with all natural-born strikers, the goals will be sure to follow sooner rather than later.
