Players you forgot played for Everton – World Cup Champion

|

Former Arsenal centre-half and World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, Shkodran Mustafi had quite an illustrious career for club and country. Still, his 3-year spell at Everton has seemed to go slightly under the radar.

Mustafi signed for Everton in May 2009, initially joining the academy setup at Goodison Park. He was well thought of in the football world, with the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United also interested in the defender, but he ultimately chose to sign for the toffees.

The German would go on to make a singular appearance for the club, coming on as a late substitute for Tony Hibbert in a 1-0 loss to BATE Borisov at Goodison Park.

Despite appearing on the bench 11 times for Everton, he would not go on to play another game for the blues, before asking David Moyes if he could leave for more game time in 2012.

He was eventually released by Everton and joined Serie A side, Sampdoria on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old is now playing in the Spanish second division with Levante but has had a very successful career, winning a World Cup with Germany and an FA Cup with Arsenal, possibly one more trophy at club level than he would have if he had stayed at Everton.
