Players Everton nearly signed – He’s a keeper

|

Following on from players we almost signed. We have two defenders in Manolas and Onuoha, but we need someone between the sticks.

In goal, we have Asmir Begovic, our current number two. But he was wanted by former manager Roberto Martinez as he looked for a replacement for USA-bound Tim Howard.

After spending 10 years at Everton, Howard packed his bags and went back home to America representing Colorado Rapids but Martinez was looking for a replacement in the January transfer window before he lost his job in May after a series of poor results.

It is unsure why the talks broke down between the two clubs with Roberto Martinez saying the following when questioned about signing Begovic

“Nothing to comment on that. We have been working for two thirds of the season so there is no point talking about other players.

“There is nothing to comment on Tim Howard, he is a foreign player who has brought so much to the league. The 10 seasons he has had is an incredible contribution.” – SportsMole

If we had signed Asmir Begovic to replace Tim Howard, how do you think we would have gotten on over the next couple of years?

Would we have still signed Jordan Pickford?
