Roberto Martinez is hopeful that Steven Pienaar will pull on the Everton shirt again before the end of the season.

The former South African international has been sidelined for the past few weeks after he injured his knee during the FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal.

Scans showed that the 32-year-old had suffered a cartilage problem, which has been assessed and treated by the medical team at Finch Farm.

It was initially feared that Pienaar would miss the rest of the season with the injury, however the Everton gaffer believes he could be inline for an early return to help boost our push for European qualification.

“Stevie is doing well, Obviously it was a real setback to lose him.

“Recovering from [an injury to] the cartilage in the knee can be tricky but at the moment he is recovering well.
Martinez told evertonfc.com.

He added: “I`m hopeful that we can see Stevie before the season ends and that is where the focus goes.

“But he`s been lively and has been working well. It is going to be really positive for us if we can get him back before the season ends.”
