Striker Cenk Tosun has said he feels that Everton’s training camp out in Dubai last week was the ‘perfect’ way for him to really begin settling into life at the club.
With a poor start as he continues to adjust to the pace of the Premier League and adjust to the country full stop, Tosun has only made two starts and one substitute showing following his £27million arrival from Besiktas but manager Sam Allardyce certainly isn’t concerned as some players just do take longer to settle than others and he remains pleased with how Tosun is adjusting in training and building his fitness.
Reflecting on his start to life himself, Tosun told the Official Site that he certainly felt he had taken the benefits of constantly being with the group this last week and he feels the trip will prove to be ‘really beneficial’ for him as we head towards the end of the season.
The 26 year old explained.
‘We didn`t go to Dubai for sun and relaxation. We trained hard, with sessions on the grass followed by gym sessions and then recuperation in the late afternoons. The temperatures were hot and we worked hard each day. Team-bonding is very important and getting to know your teammates as the people they are, as individuals.’
‘Spending every day around the guys means that we know one another better now. I`ve settled in very well, I really believe that. But the training camp in Dubai was perfect to help me adapt even further to my new surroundings, my new club, a new league. We had a lot of fun along with the serious work and I hope it will help me on the pitch for the next games. I believe it will.’
Tosun more than accepts it’s not only a footballing switch for him, it’s also a cultural one, but he relishing the opportunity to rise to that challenge and master it.
