Paris Saint-Germain still ‘keen’ on £70k-per-week Everton man, latest report is bad news

|

According to L’Equipe (h/t Sport Witness), Paris Saint-Germain are still ‘keen’ on Idrissa Gueye and want to bring the £70k-per-week Everton man to the Parc des Princes this summer. Marco Silva is desperate to keep Gueye as he’s a key player at Goodison Park, but the 29-year-old has spoken out about his desire to play for a side in the Champions League which could open the door to PSG.

Gueye made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, making two assists. The Senegalese international is one of the best ball-winners in the Premier League and would improve the PSG side if they signed him, but Everton can’t afford to let the midfielder leave as he’ll be difficult to replace. Gueye has three years left on his contract but has expressed a desire for a new challenge.

The 29-year-old racked up 2825 minutes of Premier League football for Everton last season, creating 18 chances, making 23 successful dribbles (74%), averaging 53 passes-per-game with 84% accuracy, winning 32 aerial duels (48%), blocking 56 shots/passes/crosses, making 44 clearances and averaging a tackle (142) or interception (74) every 13 minutes.

It’s easy to see why PSG want him, but whether the Toffees can convince Gueye to reject their advances to stay at Goodison Park remains to be seen. He nearly joined the Parisians in January and may jump at the chance if they make another approach.
