With Everton getting their first win of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign against Southampton last weekend, plenty of players came in for praise as fans took to social media following the game – but one man’s performance stood out.

Idrissa Gana Gueye played a staring, albeit understated role, in the 2-1 victory as goals from Theo Walcott and Richarlison gave us the victory and the Senegal international simply did what he usually does, the ugly stuff that takes effort and can often be forgotten or overlooked.
His performance on the day certainly wasn’t overlooked by these fans though as they lauded his efforts after he took specific praise from manager Marco Silva.

As brilliant as Richarlison was, the MOTM for me was Gueye. He properly bossed that midfield after Schneiderlin went off and brought the ball forwards more than I've ever seen him. Holgate was really on it as well and Tosun grafted hard. A team fighting for one another. #EFC

His post to social media certainly went over well although the player himself may have been pleasantly surprised with the responses he received back after that performance. More of the same from him will certainly do wonders for our chances of enjoying a far greater season than last year.
Some will say it’s impossible not to enjoy it more given how Silva has us set up on an attacking front, but the players can’t take their foot off the gas and I’m sure he won’t let them.
On to the next one now and hopefully back to back wins to open up a small winning streak to lift confidence further.
