Opinion: Striker should leave Everton in January after lack of playing time in December

|

Cenk Tosun was an unused substitute in Everton’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day and may be considering his future at Goodison Park after spending December on the periphery.

Tosun made just one Premier League appearance during the first three months of the season before threatening to make a comeback in November. He came off the bench in Everton’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur (November 3) while starting in their 2-1 win over Southampton (November 9) and 2-0 defeat to Norwich City (November 23).

The Turkish international once again finds himself surplus to requirements, however, as amassing just 69 minutes of football since his appearance against Norwich. Tosun has been an unused substitute in five of Everton’s last six games and finds himself behind Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean in the pecking order.

Tosun turned down a move to Galatasaray and Qatar over the summer to fight for his place at Everton, but it’s clear he’s not going to get the opportunities at Goodison Park.

Aat the midpoint of the season, the out-of-favour striker has just five league appearances to his name. Tosun would surely be better off seeking opportunities elsewhere when the January transfer window opens.

Should Everton sell Cenk Tosun?
