Opinion: Midfielder won’t join Everton despite reports

|

Everton are expected to be linked with midfielders while Idrissa Gueye’s future remains uncertain. The 29-year-old nearly joined Paris Saint-Germain in January and has made it clear he wants to play for a club in the Champions League next season.

Until a club puts forward an offer, however, Gueye will remain at Goodison Park. According to Fanatik (h/t Sport Witness), the Toffees could sign his Senegal midfielder partner Badou Ndiaye. The 28-year-old wants to leave Stoke City and is expected to be moved on this summer as a result.

Whether Everton want to add to the squad after Andre Gomes’ arrival remains to be seen, however, as Marco Silva now has Gomes, Gueye, Tom Davies, Morgan Schneiderlin, James McCarthy and Mohamed Besic to choose from.

Ndiaye joined the Potters from Galatasaray in January 2018 and has gone on to make only 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating three goals. After Stoke suffered relegation in May 2018, the midfielder took it upon himself to leave the club temporarily and hasn’t played for the Potters ever since.

Ndiaye spent last season on loan at Gala, making 23 appearances in the Super Lig and helping his side win the title – 1st with 69 points from 34 games. He contributed six goals, created 19 chances and made 35 successful dribbles (81%) for his troubles.

Everton may not make a move for another midfielder until Gueye’s future is clarified.
