Holgate won’t be a regular start in Everton’s defence, so the Baggies may be hoping the promise of first-team football could lure the 22-year-old away from Goodison Park.
Such a tactic worked in 2018/19, with Holgate spending the last five months of the season at the Hawthorns, but Albion are unlikely to be successful this time. Marco Silva needs the defender in the squad as Everton are lacking depth.
Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are expected to be regulars at the back in 2019/20, but Holgate could find himself getting more minutes if either of the pair suffers an injury.
The England u21 international has made 48 appearances in all competitions for Everton since his 2015-move from Barnsley, but Holgate racked up less than 500 minutes of playing time for the Toffees last season.
The lack of opportunity under Silva led to his move to West Brom, but Everton’s failure to sign Kurt Zouma gives him a chance to feature more often. It would be foolish to let Holgate re-join West Brom.
