Opinion: Marco Silva could start 26-year-old Everton man against West Ham

Andre Gomes made his comeback from injury against Burnley before the international break, coming off the bench in the second-half, and is likely to be handed a long-awaited start in the Premier League when Everton welcome West Ham United to Goodison Park on Saturday.

The 26-year-old had been out of action since early September, missing Everton’s 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth (September 15), 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United (September 21), 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday (September 24) and 3-1 defeat to Manchester City (September 28) before returning on October 5.

Gomes has made five appearances since turning his loan move permanent over the summer. Everton were picking up points when he started in midfield – 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace (August 10), 1-0 win over Watford (August 17), 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa (August 23), 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (September 1) – but haven’t won a game ever since.

Marco Silva is under immense pressure of losing his job due to Everton’s poor start to the season so he’ll be desperate to have his best players in the starting eleven on Saturday. The Toffees are currently 18th in the table with seven points from eight games, having lost their last four.
