Opinion: Marco Silva could recall Everton defender against Leicester to replace 31-year-old

|

Leighton Baines has only made Everton’s matchday squad on two occasions in the Premier League this season, but the 34-year-old could be named in the side against Leicester City due to Seamus Coleman’s injury. The 31-year-old has been ruled out of Sunday afternoon’s clash with the Foxes, so Baines should replace him to provide cover at fullback.

What will the result be vs Leicester?

Foxes win

Draw

Blues win

Earlier in the season, Marco Silva used Djibril Sidibe as cover on the bench, as the 27-year-old is able to play left-back and right-back. Since Sidibe dethroned Coleman in the starting eleven, however, the latter has been reduced to a back-up role. Baines is next in the pecking order, so he should at least be among the substitutes.

Everton come into Sunday’s meeting with Leicester off the back of two defeats and a draw from their last four games. The Toffees currently sit 17th in the table with 14 points from 13 games, just two points above the relegation zone. Silva’s men face a Leicester side sitting third in the league who boast five consecutive wins, so their weekend meeting will be a tricky affair.
