Cuco Martina is expected to leave Everton this summer after falling down the pecking order under Marco Silva and spending last season out on loan at Feyenoord – the 29-year-old’s last Toffees appearance was against Burnley on March 3, 2018.

Feyenoord opted against turning his loan move permanent which has left Martina without a suitor, but a successful Gold Cup campaign could put the £35k-per-week defender in the shop window. Curacao progressed to the quarter-finals and will face the USA on Monday, July 1.

They finished second in Group C with four points from three games, having lost to El Salvador (0-1), beaten Honduras (1-0) and drawn to Jamaica (1-1). They face a big task getting past the United States in the final eight, but Martina’s reputation would take a big boost if they came out on top.

Despite Everton needing backup for Seamus Coleman, it doesn’t appear Marco Silva considers Martina as an option. Jonjoe Kenny was loaned out to Schalke this summer too, so a new face may be brought in to provide depth at the back.

Given the relative lack of interest in Martina this summer, Everton may also be hoping Curacao succeed at the Gold Cup to stand a better chance of shipping him out.
