Opinion: Full-back could leave Everton

In March, Vital Everton pondered the idea of Brendan Galloway being retained if Leighton Baines departed this summer, but it appears he may be leaving either permanently or on loan. Galloway still has a year remaining on his contract with Everton, but it doesn’t appear that the club are grooming him for a first-team role in 2019/20 – the 23-year-old has been with the u23s all season.

Marco Silva previously made it clear that he wants two players in every position at Everton, citing the importance of competition for places to improve performances from individuals. Lucas Digne has been unchallenged this season, only being replaced by Leighton Baines when suspended. Baines barely makes the matchday squad while Galloway has been left out all campaign.

Galloway has endured failed loan spells with West Bromwich Albion (August 2016 – April 2017) and Sunderland (July 2017 – May 2018) and is only deemed good enough for u23 football.

The Englishman has made 21 appearances in all competitions only since joining from MK Dons in 2014, the last of which came all the way back in 2015/16. There’s probably no way back for Galloway…
