Opinion: Everton won’t sign 31-year-old in January despite reports, here’s why

|

Everton are expected to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window shuts but the midfield is one area they don’t neeed extra personnel in. Carlo Ancelotti has Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fabian Delph, Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies at his disposal and will soon be welcoming back Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin from injury.

Futbol Arena, however, believe the Toffees are interested in Steven Nzonzi and could battle Sheffield United and West Ham for his signature. The 31-year-old is currently on loan at Galatasaray and has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, making one assist.

Nzonzi is surplus to requirements at AS Roma, but it remains to be seen if he can be acquired by another club during his stint in Turkey. Gala have a buying option attached to the French international, so they’re likely to lead the chase for his signature.

It’s hard to see Everton making a move for Nzonzi as they have six midfielders on the books, not to mention the 31-year-old having no re-sale value. It wouldn’t be a good business move to add Nzonzi to the squad, so this story is a non-starter.
