Opinion: Everton wasting their time chasing 21-year-old Sampdoria man, here’s why

|

Everton are monitoring the progress of Julian Chabot and sent scouts to watch him play for Germany u21s against Spain. The 21-year-old has also recently broken into the Sampdoria side after his move from FC Groningen in July, but Everton should turn their attentions elsewhere for now.

That’s not to say the Toffees don’t need at least one new centre-back. Only Chelsea (14), Southampton (15), Watford (20) and Norwich City (21) have conceded more goals than Marco Silva’s side, and only five Premier League clubs have kept fewer clean sheets.

Only Norwich (7) have shipped two or more goals in more games than Everton (5) too, so there’s no denying that the Blues need to strengthen at the back in January. Chabot, however, would be a waste of time right now.

He’s still young, has only just joined Sampdoria and wouldn’t be ready to start in the Premier League. As per WhoScored, the 21-year-old has made three appearances for his new club, lost 47% of his aerial duels, has given away six fouls (one every 34 minutes) and only has a 50% tackle success rate.

Chabot is still a raw talent. Everton need a tried & tested player to bolster their porous backline and give Michael Keane & Yerry Mina stiff competition.
