Opinion: Everton should consider move for 23 y/o if Jonjoe Kenny leaves this summer

|

Everton are in the market for a new right-back to accompany Seamus Coleman as Djbril Sidibe, Cuco Martina and Jonjoe Kenny could be leaving the club in the coming months.

The Toffees signed Sidibe on loan from AS Monaco last summer but may opt against turning the move permanent. Martina is out of contract and has been out of favour since 2018. Kenny doesn’t want to return to Goodison Park either, so Everton have no choice but to bring in a new face.

Nottingham Forest’s Matt Cash, Olympique Marseille’s Bouna Sarr and Atletico Madrid’s Santiago Arias are among their targets, but one player Marcel Brands wanted back in 2018 was Denzel Dumfries. He failed to get a deal over the line and the 23-year-old ended up at PSV Eindhoven, however.

But could Everton land their man this summer?

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

Dumfries has made 83 appearances in all competitions for PSV, scoring 12 goals and making 11 assists. As per WhoScored, the Netherlands international has made 25 Eredivisie appearances this season and has had a hand in nine goals.

He’s created 29 chances, completed 77.4% of his 2242 passes, won 85 aerial duels (68%), made 28 successful dribbles (52.8%), had 45 shots with 31% accuracy, blocked 43 passes/crosses/shots, made 51 clearances, whipped in 35 crosses with 14% finding a teammate, won 38 free-kicks, given away 49 fouls and averaged a tackle (46) or interception (27) every 31 minutes.

As per Kike Marin, Everton may have competition for the 23-year-old’s signature, however, as Arsenal are keen on him too. PSV paid only £5m for Dumfries two years ago, but The Sun have previously stated that his asking price has now risen to £25m.

Whether Everton return for the right-back remains to be seen, but he could be a good option.
