Opinion: Everton may have to pay £35m to sign centre-forward, player ‘keen on leaving’

|

According to Correio da Manhã (h/t Sport Witness), Everton are interested in Moussa Marega and could rival West Ham United for his signature this summer. The FC Porto striker has a £35m release clause and is ‘keen on leaving’ the Estádio do Dragão if the right club makes an offer.

Marega has been in fine form this season, scoring and creating 30 goals in 42 games in all competitions. The 28-year-old has created 29 chances, made 10 successful dribbles, had 34 shots on target, won 55 aerial duels (55%) and averages 17 passes-per-game with 65% accuracy.

He would improve the Everton attack, but the Blues were reticent to meet his asking price last summer. Porto want to keep him too, so that could be a stumbling block in negotiations. The Toffees are looking for at least one centre-forward this summer as Cenk Tosun is expected to be sold.

Marega, who is a Mali international, is open to a move to the Premier League and has a fantastic goal-record to bring to England – 52 goals/assists in 95 games for Porto, 23 goals/assists in 34 games for CS Maritimo, 22 goals/assists in 31 games for Vitoria Guimaraes SC. Movement could be made when the campaign comes to a close.
