Opinion: Everton have a big problem with Andre Gomes, latest report is a blow

|

Everton have made no secret of their desire to sign Andre Gomes this summer, but increased interest in his signature could be a big problem. The 25-year-old has impressed for the Toffees since joining on a season-long loan from Barcelona, but his future is uncertain amid links with Arsenal and Tottenham.

According to ESPN, the Gunners are looking hijack Everton’s bid to sign Gomes and may win the race for his signature if they can promise Champions League football. Tottenham are also eyeing the central midfielder which is bad news for Everton’s hopes of acquiring Gomes permanently.

The Portuguese international has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, scoring and creating three goals. In the Premier League, Gomes has amassed 1961 minutes of playing time, making 41 successful dribbles (73%), 17 clearances, 46 passes-per-game with 85% accuracy and averaging a tackle (39) tackles or interception (20) every 33 minutes.

Gomes would improve Tottenham and Arsenal’s squad. After struggling at Barca, he’s turned his career around in England and has his pick of clubs following a successful loan spell in Merseyside. Whether Everton can win the race for his signature this summer remains to be seen.
