Opinion: Everton exit couldn’t have gone worse for 18-year-old

|

Korede Adedoyin joined Hamilton Academical on a season-long loan in July but has struggled for appearances early on. With Alex Iwobi, Bernard, Theo Walcott and Richarlison ahead of him in the pecking order, the 18-year-old was left with little choice but to seek a move away from Merseyside. Unfortunately, chances have been few and far between in Scotland.

As per Transfermarkt, the uncapped Nigerian wide-man has been left out of the matchday squad in all four of Hamilton’s games in the Scottish Premiership – Ross County (August 3), Kilmarnock (August 10), Motherwell (August 24) and Heart of Midlothian (August 31).

Adedoyin has also been left out of Hamilton’s five League Cup outings – Queen’s Park (July 13), Clyde FC (July 17), Partick Thistle (July 20), Airdrieonians (July 27) and Kilmarnock (August 17). Hamilton are seventh in the Premiership and made the last-16 of the League Cup.

The 18-year-old has turned out once for the Accies’ reserve team this season and appears to be low down the pecking order under Brian Rice – Marios Ogboe, Blair Alston, Lewis Smith, Mikel Miller and Steve Davies have operated in wider roles ahead of Adedoyin.

It’s still early days, but the Nigerian could have stayed at Everton to play in their reserves. He’ll learn very little being left out of Hamilton’s matchday squad every week.
