Opinion: Everton exit continues to be a nightmare for 22-year-old forward

|

Ademola Lookman left Everton last summer and returned to RB Leipzig on a permanent deal after impressing on loan 12 months earlier. The 22-year-old has struggled for form and playing time at the Red Bull Arena this season, however, and isn’t have the desired impact on his second debut.

Lookman has made seven appearances in all competitions, failing to score in 236 minutes of football. The England u21 international is out of favour under Julian Nagelsmann and finds himself behind Emil Forsberg and Timo Werner in the pecking order.

He impressed during a six-month stay at Leipzig (January 31, 2018 – June 30, 2018), contributing nine goals in 11 Bundesliga games, but Lookman hasn’t managed to replicate such antics upon his return. He’s amassed only 27 minutes of playing time in the league since October and has been an unused substitute 13 times.

Everton will be delighted to have made £22m from selling Lookman after how his season in Germany is panning out. As per WhoScored, the 22-year-old has failed to register a shot on target, failed to find a teammate with one of his 11 cross attempts and has made more unsuccessful dribbles (5) than the reverse (4).

Lookman will be desperate to turn things around, but it remains to be seen if Nagelsmann will give him more opportunities in the coming weeks.
