Everton may need to strengthen at centre-back this summer if Phil Jagielka leaves at the end of his contract and Kurt Zouma doesn’t return. Marco Silva could be left with only Michael Keane and Yerry Mina at the heart of the defence next season, so the Toffees need to sign at least one replacement to make up for the potential departure.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Everton are interested in Juanpe Ramirez and could battle Watford for his signature. The 28-year-old has made 105 appearances in all competitions for Girona, scoring and creating 10 goals, and could be available for £6.2m. Juanpe could be in line for a payrise if he made the switch to Goodison Park, potentially matching Everton’s lowest-paid first-teamer at £0.78m-a-year/£15k-per-week.
The Spanish defender has been a regular for Girona in 2018/19, making 33 Liga appearances, but the side suffered relegation in May which is likely why Juanpe is available this summer. Girona finished 18th in the top-flight with 37 points from 38 games, having conceded 53 goals over the course of the campaign. Juanpe helped keep seven clean sheets this season. He wouldn’t break the bank, but whether Everton sign him remains to be seen.
