Opinion: Everton could miss out on Tottenham man, Seamus Coleman will be happy

|

On Monday, Vital Spurs reported that Everton were linked with Kieran Trippier were rumoured to be interested in a £20m deal for the Tottenham defender. Marco Silva might avoid making a move for the English international, however, which would make Seamus Coleman very happy.

The 28-year-old has been out-of-form at Tottenham but he’s still first-choice at right-back. It’s hard to see Trippier joining a club that will pit him in direct competition with an established long-serving player when he’s still a regular for a top-six side. Coleman has made 284 appearances for the club since 2009.

Everton won’t pay £20m for a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter, so Coleman needn’t worry about the rumours. It’s more likely that the Merseysiders would sign a youngster to learn from the experienced defenders until he’s ready to replace them.

Reports stated that Tottenham wanted to sell Trippier to sign one of Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Max Aarons, but the Londoners are more likely to ship Serge Aurier with the Ivorian international being on the periphery. Ultimately, Everton don’t need Trippier, Spurs don’t need to sell Trippier, nor does the defender want to leave.
