Mason Holgate played down talk of him joining Manchester City this summer, insisting he’s focused on helping Everton finish as high as possible in the Premier League. The 23-year-old’s stock has risen in recent months after becoming a regular at centre-back and City are said to be showing interest in his signature.

Pep Guardiola has Aymeric Laporte, Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Eric Garcia to choose from in defence, but Laporte has struggled for fitness and Stones has been short of form. Holgate has been identified as a replacement for Stones and could swap clubs with the 25-year-old if reports are to be believed.

Will Mason Holgate leave the club in the summer transfer window?

No

Holgate hasn’t entertained any talk of a transfer however, telling Manchester Evening News: “It’s not really what I think about my personal form, it is more about the team and where we are going as a team. I am glad we have started getting results.”

The former England u21 international has made 26 appearances in all competitions, conceding 34 goals and helping to keep seven clean sheets. Holgate was on the periphery under Marco Silva earlier in the season but is now one of the first names on the teamsheet with Carlo Ancelotti.

City may have to pay in excess of £30m for the defender, but it’s unlikely Everton will budge regardless. Holgate could find himself in the England set-up if he maintains his consistency, so his value will sky-rocket.
