Luke Garbutt could be on his way out of Everton this summer with playing time having dried up under Marco Silva. Phil Kirkbride of the Liverpool Echo says Marco Silva ‘will offload him this summer’. The 25-year-old has spent the season on loan at League One side Oxford United and is unlikely to return to the Everton first-team after falling down the pecking order at Goodison Park.
Garbutt has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees since making his senior debut against Leyton Orient on August 29, 2012. Since rising through the youth ranks, the England u21 international has spent the majority of his time stuck in the u23s and out on loan.
The left-back has been shipped out to Cheltenham Town (September 29, 2011 – May 31, 2012), Colchester United (September 13, 2013 – January 28, 2014), Fulham (July 25, 2015 – May 31, 2016), Wigan Athletic (August 16, 2016 – January 2, 2017) and Oxford (July 2, 2018 – present).
Garbutt’s last appearance for Everton came against Sunderland on May 9, 2015, and it’s clear that his future lies away from Goodison Park. The defender still has a year remaining on his deal, but he’s expected to be granted an early departure if a suitor makes an approach.
