Opinion: Could Marco Silva recall Everton man after impressing for the national team?

|

Cenk Tosun hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football for Everton this season, but he may have given Marco Silva pause for thought after impressing for his national team. The 28-year-old scored twice and made one assist for Turkey in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Moldova (Euro 2020 qualifier) and was praised by some supporters on social media.

As per Transfermarkt, Tosun was handed 16 minutes of football in the EFL Cup against Lincoln City on August 28, making an assist, but he’s been an unused substitute in three of Everton’s four league outings. Goals have been hard to come by for the Blues this season, scoring only four goals in as many games, so Tosun may have a chance of getting a reprieve.

The experienced striker looked on his way out of Goodison Park over the summer, but he’s been public in his desire to stay and is at least making the matchday squad on account of his efforts in training. Tosun has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean for competition, but he may be given an opportunity in the league.

Silva kept him in the first-team this summer and used him in the EFL Cup last month, so will Tosun get another opportunity?
