Opinion: Another midfielder could return for Everton ahead of West Ham clash

|

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since August and was ruled out for up to eight weeks. The 24-year-old returned to training just before the international break, however, and should be fit to face West Ham United on Saturday.

Since his summer move from FSV Mainz 05, Gbamin has gone on to make only two appearances for Everton – 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace (August 10), 1-0 win at home to Watford (August 17). The Ivorian international hasn’t featured since, and Everton have managed only one Premier League win from six in his absence.

Gbamin’s potential return is fantastic news for Marco Silva, as the Everton manager is under pressure following a poor start to the season. The Toffees are currently 18th in the league with seven points from eight games and have suffered defeat in each of their last four.

Andre Gomes will be available to Silva too, so Everton will be able to name their strongest midfield against West Ham to stop the rot – the out-of-form Morgan Schneiderlin and inconsistent Fabian Delph could miss out as a result. Victory on Saturday could see Everton move out of the relegation zone.
