On-loan Everton midfielder puts in ‘Man of the Match Performance’ in FA Cup

|

Everton midfielder, Lewis Warrington, on loan at League 1 outfit, Fleetwood Town put in a Man of the Match performance and provided the assist for the winning goal in his side’s 1-0 win over Ebbsfleet United in the FA Cup 2nd round.

The Birkenhead-born midfielder signed for Everton at the age of 6. During his 14 years at the club, he has impressed at every level, making his under-23s debut at the age of just 18 during the 2020/21 season.

At the end of that season, he received the Sir Philip Carter Award – presented to a player “who has shown first-class commitment and achievement in his education while at the Academy” – at the season-ending Academy Awards to cap a fine personal campaign [via evertonfc.com].

The season after, he became one of the first names on the team sheet for the under-23s. Good performances earned him a loan move to Tranmere Rovers for the remainder of the 2021/22 season, where he played 17 times and scored one goal.

With the arrival of Frank Lampard, plenty expected him to be part of Everton’s first team for the 2022/23 season. Although he did make his first-team debut in a 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town in the League Cup, just days later he would join the League 1 club on a season-long loan.

Since joining, he has become a major part of Scott Brown’s side, so him starting in the FA Cup was no real surprise.

Although his side would start the game well and thoroughly dominate, they would not find the breakthrough until just after the hour mark.

Warrington would do well to win the ball back and lay it off to Gerard Garner to score the winner.

Fleetwood Town are now through to the 3rd round of the FA Cup and will be hoping for an easier opponent in tomorrow’s draw. Warrington, however, would not be able to play against parent-club, Everton.
