Everton confirm Theo Walcott has been discharged from Aintree hospital after undergoing a ‘precautionary assessment’ on a head injury suffered against Manchester City. The 30-year-old was replaced by Alex Iwobi after four minutes and was on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline.

As per the Daily Mail, Walcott was hit with a cross by Raheem Sterling from close range and had to be stretchered off after six minutes of on-pitch treatment.

Everton say club medics ‘will follow concussion protocols’ on the England international while he undergoes rehabilitation at USM Finch Farm. The Toffees’ next game is against Burnley on October 5, which should give Walcott enough time to recover.

Marco Silva gave an injury update in the aftermath of Saturday’s defeat, telling EvertonTV: “Theo is in our dressing room, he is okay now, he’s taking a shower. The doctors have looked at him and, let’s see how he is in the next few days, but it is nothing (serious).”

Walcott has made seven appearances in all competitions this season and has failed to score or make an assist. The 30-year-old hasn’t been a regular in the starting lineup under Silva, amassing 105 minutes of football, so it was a surprise to see him starting against City – Iwobi and Bernard are arguably better options out wide.

Everton can survive without Walcott, but they’re not having a good run of form currently. The Merseysiders are 15th in the Premier League table with seven points from as many games, having lost four of their last five and three on the bounce.
