Official: Luke Garbutt loan update

|

Luke Garbutt joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan in mid-July, but his stint at Portman Road has been disappointing. The 26-year-old was hoping to be a regular with the Tractor Boys after struggling for appearances at Everton, but he’s only featured twice and has spent the last few weeks sidelined with injury.

Garbutt scored on his debut in Town’s 1-0 win over Burton Albion (August 3) and played a small part in a 1-1 draw with Sunderland (August 10) before coming off due to injury. The left-back was replaced after 39 minutes after sustaining medial ligament damage and was ruled out for a calendar month. He could return after the international break as a result.

In League One, Garbutt has missed Ipswich’s 2-2 draw with Peterborough United (August 17), their 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon (August 20), their 5-0 thrashing of Bolton Wanderers (August 24) and their 3-0 demolition of Shrewsbury Town (August 31). He was also absence for Town’s EFL Cup defeat to Luton (August 13).

The former England u21 international made just 12 appearances for Everton since making his debut in 2011, but he doesn’t appear to have a long-term future at Goodison Park. With Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne ahead of him in the pecking order, Garbutt stands little chance of getting playing time on Merseyside.
