Lucas Digne picked up a knock during the second-half of Saturday’s win over Watford, resulting in him being withdrawn with 17 minutes remaining, but Marco Silva is hopeful that the Everton defender doesn’t have a serious injury.

The 26-year-old had a problem with his leg and asked to be replaced, but Silva played down the significance and said Digne had muscle fatigue.

He told Evertontv: “We hope it is nothing really special. (Digne) started to feel a bit more tired [in the muscle] and gave the sign to me to make the change. Let’s see in the next few days (the extent of Digne’s problem), but we hope it is nothing special.”

Digne was replaced by Mason Holgate and swapped positions with Seamus Coleman. The Toffees ran out 1-0 winners at Goodison Park.

Everton’s victory over Watford saw them go eighth in the Premier League table, with four points from their first two games. The Blues have kept consecutive clean sheets and are one of only three clubs still yet to concede this season.

Silva’s men are short on options at the back, however, so the last thing they need is Digne absent for a prolonged period of time. Leighton Baines will provide backup to the French international, but he’s currently recovering from injury and only recently returned to training.

As a result, Holgate may be in line to start against Aston Villa on Friday, August 23.
