Official: Everton man returns ahead of Leicester clash, Silva says ‘it’s possible’ he plays

Bernard has returned to training ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Leicester City and Marco Silva says “it’s possible” that he’ll feature. The 27-year-old has been sidelined with a knee injury since October, but he’s finally back in action and could be in the matchday squad over the weekend.

Silva said in Friday’s pre-match press conference: “Bernard is working with the team and did a full session yesterday morning. It is the type of injury where he needs to build confidence and work more days with the team to see how he will react. He is getting better every day and it is possible Bernard will be able to play soon.”

The Brazilian international has made nine appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals. His last outing in an Everton shirt came against Brighton & Hove Albion (October 26) – Bernard picked up his knee injury against the Seagulls and was substituted after 30 minutes.

He’s missed Everton’s last three league games – 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur (November 3), 2-1 win over Southampton (November 9), 2-0 defeat to Norwich City (November 23) – but could be in contention of starting if passed fit.

Theo Walcott could miss Sunday’s meeting with Leicester and will need replacing. If not Bernard, then Alex Iwobi & Moise Kean are the only options for Silva – two players who have struggled for consistency this season. The 27-year-old will be rusty after spending a month out of action, so it would be a big call to start him from the off. Time will tell.
