Official: Everton confirm seventh departure of the summer, club land themselves £22.5m

Everton confirm that Ademola Lookman has joined RB Leipzig on a five-year deal. According to Andy Hunter of the Guardian, Leipzig have paid £22.5m for the 21-year-old. It’s unknown whether the deal contains a buyback clause or sell on fee, however.

Lookman made 48 appearances in all competitions for Everton, scoring just four goals. He initially joined the Toffees from Charlton Athletic in January 2017 but never managed to hold down a starting place for a prolonged period and was loaned out last season in a bid to get more first-team football.

The England u21 international join Leipzig in January 2018 and made a big impression in Germany. Lookman scored and created nine goals 11 appearances and was the subject of bids from the Bundesliga side the following summer.

Everton turned down Leipzig’s approaches to sign him, however, and included Lookman in the first-team. Unfortunately, his form fell off a cliff in 2018/19. The 21-year-old scored just one goal and made two assists in 24 appearances in all competitions. Lookman made just six starts that season too.

Nevertheless, he’s the seventh player out of Everton this summer, following Ashley Williams, Phil Jagielka, Nikola Vlasic, Brendan Galloway, Harry Charsley and Mateusz Hewelt.
