Official: Everton confirm fourth summer signing, shirt number revealed

|

Everton confirmed the signing of Jean-Philippe Gbamin and have handed him the No.25 shirt for the 2019/20 campaign – the same number he wore at FSV Mainz 05 and RC Lens. The 23-year-old joins from the Bundesliga for around £22.5m and is Everton’s fourth signing of the summer after Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Moise Kean.

Gbamin made 95 appearances in all competitions for the German outfit, scoring and creating seven goals. He spent three years at the Opel Arena and will now ply his trade at Goodison Park. Marco Silva wanted a like-for-like replacement for Idrissa Gueye and has finally landed his man.

The Ivorian international made 31 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring and creating three goals. He created 23 chances, averaged 43 passes-per-game with 80% accuracy, had 35 successful dribbles (53%), won 52 aerial duels (57%), blocked 42 passes/shots/crosses, made 29 clearances and averaged a tackle (51) or interception (30) every 33 minutes.

Gueye has left big shoes to fill at Everton, but Silva has Delph, Gbamin and Morgan Schneiderlin who can operate in his midfield role. The 23-year-old may not be the last player arriving at Goodison before the transfer window shuts either, with Everton still in need of a centre-back.
