Official: Everton confirm another 19 y/o’s departure

|

Everton have confirmed in their 2019/20 retained list that Korede Adedoyin has been released – another 19-year-old to be shown the exit door after Manasse Mampala. Adedoyin failed to make the step up from youth football, struggled during a loan spell in Scotland, and was out of contract this summer, so his release made a lot of sense.

Which club did Everton loan Cenk Tosun out to in January?

The young winger joined Everton at the age of 10 and has gone on to make 51 appearances for the U18s, scoring 26 goals and making four assists. Adedoyin would have progressed to the U23s this season, but he was loaned out to Hamilton Academical instead.

The move was meant to boost his development, but the Nigerian failed to make an appearance in their first-team and only turned out once for their reserves before returning in January. Upon his return to Everton, it was hard to see how he’d get a look-in with Theo Walcott, Bernard, Richarlison and Alex Iwobi standing in his way.

Adedoyin has failed to kick on while the likes of Lewis Gibson and Anthony Gordon have overtaken him. Everton have been linked with wide-men this summer too – Ryan Fraser, Cengiz Under, Wilfried Zaha, Memphis Depay, Jose Callejon, Rafa Silva, Jack Grealish, Everton Cebolinha Soares, Philippe Coutinho and Jesse Lingard – so it’s clear the 19-year-old would have to leave to get opportunities.
