Director of Football Marcel Brands and boss Marco Silva have been successful in their efforts to bring Andre Gomes back to Everton on a permanent transfer, and are now hopeful they can do the same with Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma, as per BBC Sport.
Silva and Brands are thought to have made the French international centre-back our new top target following the £22million capture of Gomes, and are stepping up their efforts to add the 4-cap defender to our ranks having opened talks with the Pensioners earlier this month.
Chelsea are still yet to make a decision on whether they will cash in on Zouma amid their forthcoming two-window transfer ban though, and are currently searching for their new manager following Maurizio Sarri’s return to Serie A. The new boss, expected to be Derby County head coach Frank Lampard, will have the final word on the 24-year-old’s future.
Should the Stamford Bridge outfit sell Zouma, they will be left with David Luiz, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger as their only senior centre-backs for the next twelve months, but the German ace will miss the start of the new campaign through injury.
The South West London side are thought to have placed a £30million-plus price tag on Zouma amid our interest in turning his loan into a permanent arrangement, however. The £40,000-a-week ace is also understood to be open to moving back to Merseyside if whoever takes up the Stamford Bridge hot seat cannot offer any assurances about first-team football with Chelsea.
Brands is now expected to try and test the Pensioners’ resolve with an opening offer in the coming weeks, as the Dutchman looks to strengthen Silva’s backline, and may follow his Zouma pursuit with a new right-back after Jonjoe Kenny joined FC Schalke 04 on loan.
A new striker may also be on his way to Goodison Park ahead of the new campaign, as the BBC believe the club are actively looking to add a new centre-forward before the Premier League term commences as Cenk Tosun failed to make a positive impression on Silva.
